Bot. any of a class (Magnoliopsida) of angiosperms, as oak trees, legumes, and cactuses, with an embryo containing two cotyledons (seed leaves), characterized by net-veined leaves, flower parts in fours or fives, and the presence of cambium: often clipped to dicot
